Golf - I hope you qualify - that would be great!
If you ever get in the Great lakes region [Chicago, Detroit, Indiana] and want to play let me know. That would be a blast! You'll have to spot me a few strokes I fear....

i have been playing for about 2 years seriously - about 2 before that casually.

with gas prices forecasted to reach $2.50 in the u.s. do you think this will impact the district conventions this summer?i hope that either fewer will travel to the conventions, and those that do attend will donate less money to the wts.. and what about field service?
i realize hard-core jws will continue in the "ministry", but in my area we have a lot of driving territory.
not many are willing to drive, they prefer to stay close to the kh and work shorter periods rather than spend a lot of money filling up their gas tanks.. in other countries where gas prices are higher than u.s. prices perhaps people are used to it, but do you think it has a bearing on jw activity?
Blondie - that is a good point. It might also help them log more hours in service. But the number of witnesses won't increase since they will still be knocking at NH's all day. I really doubt any will do that here in the US. Too lazy. I always wanted to walk the territory for exercise and could never get anyone to do so - no I don't think they will walk much.

oh lordy, at yesterday's botchtower study, paragraph 17 (i think) asked what we personally found "encouraging" about the 2004 stats that are listed by country in the wt.
anyway, someone finally put up their hand and remarked about how wonderful it was to see that ethiopia had a 5% increase......ya, i guess if you're starving to death, who wouldn't want to hear that paradise is right around the corner.
one bro put up his hand and actually mentioned the fact that there was 0% increase in virtually all the industrialized nations, but that we "shouldn't let that discourage us".
One thought has occurred to me that might be employed in the matter - will they somehow just stop reporting the individual countries and give the worldwide figure? - at least for the time being they can show growth there! Plus it would be impossible to 'track' a number like that well. Easier to hide the lies.
Maybe some creative use of Memorial attendance to create positive information that sounds like growth to the average dub with his brain in neutral? [I know they do this already, but perhaps an expanded version of this]
Very clear they are getting nervous. This years report was a month later than before.
Just my Opinion

was following mary's thread on the wt study of the annual report - what a hoot!.
in follow-up; for years we have heard that the org's growth was 'proof' of the 'truth'.
do you think the org will come up with some obsure scriptural/prophetic understanding to explain the reduced zeal for the 'kingdom' now?

No, haven't checked the Mormon growth, but I think I read somewhere that it has always been better than Jw's. That would be interesting to see though. Anyone?

(quote).
as many as are interested in the message will inquire the way by which they can attain this; and the answer must be that the full acceptance of discipleship must be indicated by a full consecration of heart, mind and body to the lord, even unto death, and that this submission of the will to the lord is counted as a baptism, a burial, an immersion with him into death.
then the further explanation must be given that as soon as they have performed this real baptism or immersion of the will they should submit themselves to an outward immersion into water, which would symbolize this submission of the will, portraying their death and burial to self, to sin and to tile world, and their resurrection to newness of life and conduct its members of the body of christ.. .

I had thinking of getting one of those cd's - are they easy to search for keywords ect?

my bookstudy was at an elders house that lived a bit out of the city.
a small road with only his house and another.
the other house was the first you passed.....unsightly....trashed cars.......broken down bicycles............not trashy, but not like the bit of paradise at the elder house.. i remember the elder telling us how the man had become ill and lost his job working for the waterworks department, a city job, with little wages.

I remember one CO telling me that the organization was not big on 'sentimentality'. What he meant was it was not big on Charity, compassion, human understanding, fellow feeling.
And when I look back on it I cannot recall a single mention of charity among those people in over 4 decades. We considered that we were providing the greatest charity of all - selling them little magazines that proclaimed our little old men at the helm in Brooklyn as those who lead them all to life in paradise.
So sad to think about the goodness that could have been done with all that 'volunteer' effort -wasted in service to a corporate publishing house.

here in quebec, ordinary unleaded is 94.4 cents a litre.
(that's the cheapest gas!!!).
there are 3.78 liters per american gallon, so this would give $3.57 a us gallon..... what's the price of gas in your area?
Regular Unleaded today = $1.93
Down from yesterday though - $2.07
most of us have experienced the frustration of trying to convince a friend or relative that the wts is not what it claims: an organisation backed by 'god'.. of course, it is very difficult to prove a negative and a real die-hard believer will explain-away any evidence of wrongdoing by the org.
as they are trained to do so well.. i have found it good to reverse the question and ask them:.
"what would the wts have to do to convince you that it wasn't god's organisation?".
"What would the WTS have to do to convince you that it wasn't God's organisation?"I like the focus on actions - instead of doctrine here. Most witnesses will excuse wrong doctrine and thinking by the org - but focusing on the wrongs, if u can get that far is a good idea.
How about this - in view of the way the org has attacked other religions?
If you became aware of intentional wickedness, like that that the organization has exposed regarding other religions, i.e; child molestations cover-ups, linking to politics and let's say the UN, deception to governments to gain recognition, trust of the church-leadership while ignoring God's express will. Would that make you think that perhaps God was not with the organization?

Maybe you should consider writing for the society - you seem to have the knack for a good twist on things... I loved your prophetic parody...LOL

Blondie - you might be on to something there!
But would that also mean that the preaching will stop for that same time period - they would have to find a way to keep the preaching going - though in Noah's day it obviously would have stopped when the door was closed.
